Indicator was a three person installation exhibition presented for Toronto Nuit Blanche 2013. Indicator species such as Birds, bats and bees signal the deteriorated state of ecosystems, warning us when our environs are in trouble. These three installations investigate the concept of biological indicators and the suffering of wildlife due to habitat destruction, climate change, and environmental contamination. Jessica Marion Barr's "Augury : Elegy" formed a rain cloud of bird bones. Karen Abel's "Hibernaculum" was a chandelier inhabited by crystalline cast-sugar bats. Encircling the space was Gareth Bate's ghostly "Colony Collapse" an amphitheatre-like wall mural of the ancient Roman Coliseum and aquiducts hand drawn with liquid honey. The honey gradually slid down the walls leaving a ghostly image and pools on the floor. Read more
